Billie-Jo Porter—
With her signature mix of wit and warmth, Billie-Jo Porter returns with her delightful new single, Spring Cleaning, a song that turns the simple act of tidying up into a sparkling metaphor for clearing out the cobwebs, literally and emotionally.
Co-written with Canadian songwriter Doris Folkens, Spring Cleaning transforms the ritual of cleaning house into a cathartic, toe-tapping reminder that moving on doesn’t always have to hurt.
“Instead of leaning into heavy heartbreak, the lyric turns toward wit and playfulness, showing how humour can soften the edges of letting go,” Billie-Jo explains.
Produced by Shane Nicholson, the track captures the breezy honesty and bounce that have become Billie-Jo’s trademark. “Recording with Shane Nicholson is always a masterclass in honesty and heart. He just knows how to bring the best out of every song,” Billie-Jo says.
The addition of flugelhorn and trumpet brings an unexpected brassy joy to the production, a celebratory energy that elevates the track beyond a standard acoustic folk-country tune, giving it an unmistakable bop-like bounce.
Since releasing her debut self-titled album in 2023, Billie-Jo has carved out her own vibrant space in the Australian country scene.
“I grew up in the country and somehow ended up by the sea, so I guess my songs have a bit of both dust and salt in them,” Billie-Jo laughs. “I love the simple things: good people, good stories, and getting creative; I even make earrings out of old guitar strings when I’m off the road. It all feeds back into the music.”
