Jake Davey—
Jake Davey’s new single, Workin’ On Me, is a breezy, heartfelt song that captures the quiet strength found in self-reflection and showing up for the people who matter most.
Blending timeless country storytelling with a polished pop edge, Workin’ On Me is a song shaped by growth, emotionally, creatively and personally. Written during a transformative period in Jake’s life, the track reflects love earned, lessons learned and the grounding reality of stepping into fatherhood.
Co-written with Dakota Striplin and Charles Walker in Nashville, self-produced and mixed by Jake, and mastered by Leon Zervos at Studios 301, the track captures the honesty, vulnerability, and quiet strength that comes with embracing life’s biggest roles.
“Workin’ On Me is an incredibly personal song, and I wanted that to come through in every part of the production,” says Jake. “I self-produced it, bringing together an amazing group of musicians, and focused on every detail to make sure the emotion and story felt honest and authentic. This track really reflects where I’m at as a songwriter and as a person.”
That sense of purpose is woven through every line of the lyric, from the admission of being “a free fall, a lost cause” to the steady resolve of becoming “the kinda man you need.” It’s a song about progress, not perfection, and about choosing growth even when it’s uncomfortable.
Jake continues to carve his place as one of Australia’s most versatile modern country voices, but the journey hasn’t been smooth sailing. After a life-changing spinal cord injury in 2023 that doctors said would prevent him from having children or walking again, he returned not only to walking, but to touring, writing and recording (along with welcoming his first child last year), emerging stronger, clearer and more purposeful.
Workin’ On Me is the sound of that resilience in motion. It’s about doing the work, day by day, and choosing growth when it matters most. Amidst this deeply personal chapter now unfolding, Jake steps forward with a renewed sense of purpose, working on himself and inviting listeners along for the ride.
